Teeth Whitening

imageTeeth Whitening also known as bleaching, is the process that helps to lighten the shade of teeth. Teeth that are discolored, stained, or have been darkened because of injury can be whitened. Whitening can also be performed in teeth that have had root canal treatment and this is known as internal bleaching. If you have a tooth that has turned dark due to a root canal treatment it can be made to look shades lighter.

There are two kinds of teeth whitening: Take home trays whitening, and In office whitening

Take Home tray –Whitening
The home use whiteners are generally dispensed by dentists and contain from 10% to 37% carbamide peroxide. The bleach gel is placed in trays that custom fit your teeth. The trays are worn for one or a couple hours for two weeks.

You can buy teeth whitening products everywhere, but most of the time these products do not carry the strength to give the results that you want in a whitener. We recommend that you have a prescription from Dr. Ada Neil’s office to give you the bright smile that you have always wanted.

In-office whitening
In office whitening means that you come to our Dental Office to obtain a whitening treatment in about one and a half hours time. The significant color change in a short period of time is the major benefit of in-office whitening. This protocol involves the carefully controlled use of a relatively high-concentration peroxide gel, applied to the teeth by the dentist or trained technician after the gums have been protected with a paint-on rubber dam. Generally, the peroxide remains on the teeth for several 15 to 20 minute intervals that add up to an hour (at most). Those with particularly stubborn staining may be advised to return for one or more additional bleaching sessions, or are asked to continue with a home-use whitening system.

The NEIL DENTAL GROUP practice recommends you to avoid tobacco, coffee and other stain prone foods to maintain your teeth white and healthy. We would like to give you a bright and attractive smile.
